About
Prideaux House has been running as an independent local charity for over 30 years. The great majority of the running costs are provided by our Charity Shop situated at the top of the Narrow Way (207 Mare Street), Hackney Central which has become well known and much loved by thousands of customers.
Prideaux House has always sought to meet the needs of local residents in whatever way possible. Our hall and kitchen are regularly used by our Friday Lunch Club, parent and baby classes, tenants and residents associations, exercise and therapy groups, clubs and societies, and the Friends of Well Street Common. We have hosted art exhibitions, craft fairs, greenery days, and other social events.
During Covid our hall was used by local charity “ChildrenwithVoices” as a Food Hub, and since 2023 as an emergency night shelter during periods of extreme cold weather (run by charity Hackney Doorways).
Our hall can be booked both by local community groups, at our community rate, and by private individuals for small social events. The capacity of the hall is 50. In addition, we have two meeting rooms on our first floor (accessible either by stairs or a lift) suitable for smaller meetings.

Prideaux House’s Lunch Club runs on Fridays 12 – 3pm (during term time) and is open to local people over 55, looking for a friendly place to meet others and share a two course meal. The meals are cooked by a varied team of local volunteers and we enjoy a range of cuisine! The cost of a meal is currently £5, which includes tea and coffee.
